Winning the beer businessAnother new business success to start the year with as we’ve just been appointed by Hilden Brewery to undertake a complete brand appraisal. As designers, working on a beer brand is just the best thing going. Although we imagine there are lots of other good reasons for working on a beer account - nudge nudge wink wink!!!
Season's GreetingsSincere best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone here in Elm House Creative. We hope 2012 is good to you. Enjoy.
Our client wins Best Brand CampaignCongratulations to Northern Bank who recently picked up the Best Brand Campaign award at the CIM Marketing Awards in Belfast. We’ve been working intensively with the Bank over the past couple of years and it’s great to see that the efforts of absolutely everyone involved are paying dividends. Indeed, this was one of the most prestigious awards on the night and the success was greatly welcomed.
Good things come in TwosA double dose of good news as we can now report that we’ve again been successful on the pitch front – and all in a matter of days. First, we found out that we had won the Strangford Lough and Lecale Partnership business – followed closely by the thumbs up from Hillmark Homes. Our design team are already busy on both – check the design portfolio soon to see how the new work shapes up.
Welcome, JeremyWelcome to our new Account Manager, Jeremy Stanley, who joins us from RMG Target in Dublin. Jeremy will be working primarily on our InterTradeIreland and Mortgage Shop accounts. Jeremy is a welcome addition to the House – if only for his passion for cooking and food writing which may shame us into cutting down on all the Pickled Onion crisps and other nasties we get through!
Big marketing winAnother significant piece of business has come ‘holm’ to roost with the news that we’ve won the design and advertisng work the Holm Group Northern Ireland. This tees up a very busy period ahead across press ads, a complete suite of marketing materials and a TV spot as well.
Tons of TV and a massive wrapPhew! It’s been a very busy summer in Elm House. We’re just back from distant shores (well, London W1 to be precise) having completed a range of new TV spots for Northern Bank. There’s also a new Daily Mirror TV commercial hot off the presses, as well as a ton of interesting branding projects on the go too. And if anyone still hasn’t seen our massive building wrap in Donegall Square Belfast, we suggest you do something about that eyesight of yours! More news soon.
EHC completes NYCCongratulations to Mark Heaney, one of our Design team, who just recently completed the New York Marathon in a time to make all us old laggards truly jealous. Mark was raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and we are hugely proud of his efforts. Well done.
Golf DayOnce again, we are pleased to take every opportunity to support our nominated charity: PEAT (Parents’ Education as Autism Therapists). This time around it’s their annual Golf Day at the very pleasant Massarene course in Antrim. High handicappers Michael and Brian will be to the fore on the lovely Lough Neagh shore (no puns or rhymes intended)!
Winning BBC businessWe’re pleased to announce that we have been successful in our pitch for the BBC Northern Ireland account. After a very thorough process, Elm House Creative – along with just three other agencies – were appointed to the exclusive roster. This is an exciting win for us and a unique opportunity for our team to work on one of the most famous brands in the world. It will also be very enjoyable to reflect the BBC’s tremendous local heritage and its importance as the leading broadcaster in Northern Ireland.
Our move is completeThanks to all our clients for their understanding as we beamed ourselves across the city from Hill Street to James Street South. Actually, we thought it was going to be a bit more hassle than it proved to be. Anyway, we are now happily ensconced in our new home and coming to terms with the much wider range of sandwich options here in ‘the city centre’. We’ve even got our Xmas tree up.
Two new Northern Bank adsFollowing our brief sojourn in Spain during August, we returned to more film work for Northern Bank. Our first commercial featured the very talented Emma Little explaining why an LTV (Loan to Value) Mortgage could save you £100 a month. (Most of the crew practically signed up there and then, by the way!)
Our second commercial was aimed at Business viewers. The product was Cash Management – yet another really innovative offering from the Bank that makes it so much easier for businesses to manage their cash flow and even move their money at a click of a button.
Shooting in SpainIt’s been a very busy summer here in Elm House – especially on our Northern Bank account. Having produced a wide range of print material for the bank, we then turned our attention to giving them a new onscreen presence.
The product was ‘Freedom’ - a great current account for those under a certain age. So we researched and researched and researched... and then decided to go shoot a commercial in Spain!
Amid temperatures of 37C, we toted cameras, lights and make-up and told the story of how “local Northern Ireland guy does good in Spain” - bringing the whole Freedom product to life.
Yes, the shoot was gruelling. But the result was a resounding success. (And it’s hard to beat a de-brief meeting on a li-lo every now and then.)

Michael Stewart
Michael Stewart, Client Services Director, has over 25 years' experience in marketing and communications.
He has worked in senior marketing positions on the Client side as well as Client Services Director in some of the province’s top agencies. Needless to say, he's learned a thing or two about what it takes to make Clients happy and to deliver marketing campaigns that get results.
Brian O Fril
Brian Ó Fríl has been at the forefront of Irish advertising for over 20 years. During that time, he has worked on every type of account conceivable - from FMCG through finance, automotive, telecoms and government. His passions include Bob Dylan, basketball and the constant struggle to break 90 on the golf course.
Ross Parker
Ross Parker, Design Director, has over 15 years' experience as an award-winning creative. He specialises in design consultancy and brand development and has been responsible for creating identities for some of the highest profile private sector businesses and public sector organisations in Ireland. Amazingly he still insists he's only 29! Recently bespectacled, his major passion is sailing - including a recent trip across the Irish Sea (for charity) and representing Ireland in the World Laser Championships.
Mark Heaney
Mark Heaney, Designer and problem-solver extraordinaire. Mark works on numerous key accounts in the agency. A keen sportsman, he is currently training for the New York Marathon in November. Once he’s got that out of the way, he’ll go back to playing 5-a-side football - dodgy calves permitting.
Joanne Brown
Rachel Lonergan, Art Director and our resident renaissance woman. An art-directing copywriting creative and also a member of the Belfast Print Workshop in her spare time. Rachel moved up from Dublin almost 3 years ago and is still amazed by how much it rains here.
Niall Nugent
Designer Niall Nugent hails from Omagh and is now honorary Director of Elm House's 'Music in the Studio' Dept. We are all massively humbled by his knowledge. Especially Ross. An injured powerlifting Champion, he hopes to make a spectacular return in 2010. Meanwhile he indulges his love of Heavy Metal (out of office hours, thankfully).
Jonny McClean
Jonny McClean, Studio Manager. Jonny joined us not because of his hugely impressive organisational talents, but because of his impressive collection of band t-shirts. And the fact that he supports Liverpool.
Steve Blair
Recognised for his award-winning print and TV work, Creative Director Steve Blair has worked extensively on the other side of the Atlantic on brands such as Coca Cola, General Motors, Bacardi, Molson beer, Nestle and many, many more. More importantly perhaps, Steve also provides Brian with an opportunity to ramble on about Bob Dylan album to a more appreciative ear. More likely to support the Toronto Blue Jays than Liverpool.
Karen Reid
Administrative Assistant, Karen Reid keeps us all organized in the office, keeps suppliers happy and still has time to pursue her new found passion for golf. She is also an active fundraiser for our nominated charity PEAT (Parents’ Education as Autism Therapist).
